Male Breaks In, Sexually Assaults Home Owner

Around 8:40 pm on July 7th, 2024, Sault Ste. Marie Police Services responded to a report of a sexual assault in progress. Patrol officers were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the officers swiftly located the accused, 23-year-old Nicholas Cardinal, and placed him under investigative detention as they worked to piece together the details.

The investigation revealed a truly troubling turn of events – Cardinal had somehow gained unauthorized entry into the victim’s private residence. Once inside, the young man proceeded to sexually assault the unsuspecting resident, a heinous act of violation that left the victim traumatized and shaken to their core. Thankfully, the victim had the presence of mind to contact emergency services, allowing the police to apprehend the accused before he could inflict further harm.

As the Sault Ste.
